The present study discerns the diverse aspects of investing in the Indian stock market under varying market conditions. It uncovers the idiosyncratic and importunate mean return shifts associated to the bull and bear market regimes. The study elucidates the comparison in performance of selected active portfolio management strategies for each market phase. An optimal portfolio cannot be diversified without ascertaining the psychological aspects of the market participants. Therefore, it unravels the extent of behavioural biases investors associated with altering market regimes. newline
