dc.description.abstractThe current study entitled Public Pensions and Social Security: The Pattern of Use and Impact of Old Age Pension in Haryana is done to obtain the Doctoral thesis. This study is mainly based on primary data, which was collected from four selected districts of Haryana, based on stratified systematic random sampling. The main objectives of the study are, to analyse the pattern of use of old age pension received by elderly under the OASA in the state of Haryana, to examine the adequacy of old age pension in meeting basic needs of beneficiaries in various socio-economic groups, to study the impact of old age pension on quality of life of beneficiaries in terms of selected dimensions, and to record the barriers and difficulties encountered by the pension holders in regular receipt of old age pension in Haryana. The multivariate techniques were used to examine the use pattern and impact of old age pension in Haryana. Study observed that about 61 percent of the total pension amount goes for procure non-food items whereas about 39 percent of pension amount goes for food items. The majority of the pensioners report that pension amount is inadequate to fulfill their basic needs. An overwhelming majority (96 percent) of pension holders report about improvement in at least one indicator of quality of life through the old age pension in Haryana. The majority of the pension holders are satisfied with the overall mechanism of delivery of pension while 12 percent report about the some difficulties in receiving of pension. newline
