Abstract: The world is witnessing an alarming phase in the history of human civilization with the emergence of microorganisms capable of adaptive existence against the most potent of antimicrobial drugs invented by mankind. In the pre-antibiotic era, patient fatalities were common due to bacterial infections. With the discovery of penicillin, medical science was able to bring a revolution in antibacterial treatment with a dramatic decrease in mortality and morbidity of infected patients. Incidentally, decades after the miraculous discovery of penicillin, we have reached the same spot from where we started. The reason being the fight back shown by the tiny microbes to cumulatively form a resistive alliance that is seriously threatening public health worldwide. newline
