Induction of compartmentalized immunity in the lungs of Balb C mice with yersiniabactin receptor protein flagellin conjugateagainst Klebsiellapneumoniae infection

Abstract

The present study clearly establishes the potential of conjugating two antigenically different proteins i.eyersiniabactin receptor protein with flagellin to increase the overall immune response in a host. Where the specific immune response generated in terms of antibodies against yersiniabactin receptor complements the non- specific immune response generated in terms of inflammatory markers in protecting the host from the bacterial challenge. This study also establishes the finding that flagellin can be coupled to some potential and specific antigens to increase their imunoavailability. Such a strategy can be beneficial for the patients as incidence of nosocomial as well as community acquired pneumonia caused by drug resistant Klebsiellapneumoniae is on the increase. Such a prophylactic measure can save the patient from the suffering caused due to the infection by this bacterium. newline
