Abstract: | International Labour Organisation is the tripartite agency of United Nations since 1919 under the Treaty of Versailles that brings together Governments, Employers and Workers to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men. The International Labour Standards are in the form of conventions and protocols set to promote opportunities for men and women to achieve productive and decent work. The progress and prosperity of a country depends on industrialization and construction industry is growing one and biggest employment provider. Labour legislation in India is protecting the rights of building and construction workers, but still there are some loopholes. Empirical study conducted in the District S.A.S. Nagar, Mohali, Punjab reveals the implementation of labour laws in construction industry. The research work analyzed the International Labour Standards, Labour Legislation, Judicial Pronouncements and its proper implementation and enforcement. The study focuses on protecting the rights of workers in construction industry and to safeguard their life and liberty. newline |
