Housing contributes to improving urban-rural equality by reducing the difference in the standard of living. Therefore, housing serves a variety of functions including many social needs and demands of the household. The present study focused on the extent and prospects of Housing and Rehabilitation Policy in the implementation of Ashiana Scheme in the two cities of Haryana namely, Faridabad and Panchkula during the period 2010 to 2020. The study aimed to assess the newlineperformance of the Ashiana scheme in identifying the problems in its implementation and evaluated the scheme in terms of adoption of good governance practices, and environmental sustainability. The study also aimed to review the level of public participation and to assess beneficiaries satisfaction with the services being provided under the scheme. The study was based on primary and secondary data. Primary data from beneficiaries and officials were collected with the help of questionnaire and interview schedule. Data collected were analyzed after classification, coding, editing, and tabulation by using statistical tools such as simple percentages and chi-square test to determine the level of significance between the variables. Certain benchmarks or indicators prescribed in the concerned acts, bye-laws, rules, and master plans were adopted for finding out the gaps. The results of the study revealed that there were huge gaps in the implementation of scheme- inadequate urban housing planning, use of unsustainable environmental practices, inadequate urban basic services etc. Certain suggestions and policy prescriptions mentioned in the study would work towards filling these gaps systematically. newline newline
