dc.description.abstractxxv,186p. newlineIn the late 1950s, there arises a call to the manufacturing industries to newlineproduce components with better strength at the expense of its weight. Hence, newlinemetal matrix composites are being into the picture to bear out the requirements. newlineAluminium metal matrix composites are considered to be the advanced materials newlinewith its varied range of applications in automobile, aerospace, naval, defense, newlineelectronics, and sporting equipment owing to the high strength to weight ratio, newlinebetter corrosion, wear, and tear-resistant properties, improved high thermal zone newlineapplications and decent machinability properties. Alum (Mg) alloyed composites are similar in so many aspects of the applications since they have a similar melting point and density. Aluminium metal matrix composites produced by powder metallurgy (PM) gives a regular distribution of the reinforcements into the matrix to give near-net shaped composites. This research presents the tribological and machining behavior of the Al - 4% Mg reinforced with different weight percentages (2%, 4% and 6%) of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) as the reinforcement particulates. These composite materials are prepared through the powder metallurgy route. Also, they are characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) fitted with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) to confirm the uniform dispersion of the newlineMoS2 into the Al - 4% Mg material. The Al, Mg, and MoS2 powders of newlinepredetermined composition are mixed thoroughly using a ball milling equipment newlinebefore being green compacted using a universal testing machine (UTM) at 650 newlineMPa. The green compacted composites are sintered at 5000C for a time of 1 hr newlineinside an argon atmosphere to avoid oxidation. Then they are furnace cooled to newlineroom temperature before being polished with sandpapers of different grades like newline800, 1000, and 1200. The density of the composites is calculated using the newlineArchimedes principle and found to be matching nearer to 98% of the theoretical newlinedensity. Vickers microhardness test is employed with a load of 10g with 10s o
