Abstract: | To highlight the message of public awareness and the identification of strength of unity delivered in both, narrative and dramatic forms comprise the real essence of this research endeavor: Gursharan Singh De Natkan Vich Rajsi Chetna. Gursharan Singh formulates his point of view for his dramas through the struggles rising from the strength of the united populace; proposing the ruling class to take up a public oriented attitude. The dramatist is aware that conflicts are always vested in the society divided into castes and classes. Yet, the ruling class never take such initiatives as could make the people forget these factions, entering into collective ventures, and struggle for their liberty. The ruling class is replete with all types of resources and thus it does not let the struggles breed. Consciousness is the foundation of struggle. The ruling and bureaucratic class always attempts to block the ways that can awaken the consciousness of the people. Using the method of street shows, Gursharan Singh reaches out to the life of the common man, awakens the consciousness, and finally this consciousness takes the form of Political consciousness, and succeeds in identifying the real face of exploiting class. The sense of Political consciousness rising from the narratives of power-driven institutions and their public exploitation in the plays of Gursharan Singh, has been attempted to be postulated in this thesis. newline |
