A study on prevalence of HIV AIDS in southern Orissa and its impact on family and society Intervention programmes for HIV AIDS patients

Abstract

National AIDS Control Organisation has identified five highly vulnerable states of India in prevalence and spread of HIV. Odisha is one of the five states and Ganjam is leading the Odisha in case of AIDS. There are more than 5000, HIV positive cases in the district by 2014. Since there is no cure for this and early death is inevitable proper medicine for treatment and counseling should be done to arrest the spread of AIDS and at the same time impart proper counseling the patients can delay HIV person from being full blown AIDS patients. newlineThe Study is done to find out the different types of intervention programmes implemented to manage crises and spread of HIV/AIDS in Ganjam district. The samples were drawn from different blocks and ART Centers in Ganjam district. The sample contains 50 male and 50 female HIV positive people. The study included the socioeconomic background of the patients, their age group, marital status, educational qualification and occupation and income level. These are the important factors that determine the reproductive behavior extextramarital relation and economic status ensures better access to food, nutrition and treatment. Educational level determines a persons mental wellbeing and capacity to use contraceptives, to restrict unwanted, risky sexual indulgences and can make a person highly alert about the negative consequences of having multiple sex partners and going to sex workers for physical fulfillment. newline
