A study of physical fitness psychological health of post menopausal women and associated factors in urban and rural gurugram

Abstract

The population pyramid of India for the year 2017 shows a large number of females in age group of 45 and above. Physical and psychological health concerns of women in their post-menopausal phase of their life has not received considerable notice by researchers and policy makers in India. The objectives of present study were to study the general physical and mental health status in postmenopausal women in Rural and Urban Gurugram, to investigate cardio respiratory fitness and musculoskeletal fitness of the study subjects, to evaluate whether status of psychological health and fitness differed among rural and urban women, to identify and prioritize the factors affecting physical and psychological health of post-menopausal women and to develop a comprehensive health framework/model to improve the fitness level of post-menopausal women using interpretive structural modeling methodology. The methodology was a cross sectional survey. Post-menopausal women of selected urban and rural areas of Gurugram were selected using convenience non probability sampling. Informed Consent was taken from candidates who fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria. Structured schedule method was used to obtain information from the pre tested questionnaire. Assessment of Body Mass Index using Quetlet Index, Cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal fitness testing which included series of tests as per American College of Sports Medicine Criteria (ACSM). newline
