Abstract: With globalization, consumerism also increased worldwide. The consumption of goods and services increased in the shopping malls. Retailing took its height and mall culture came into great use. There are several malls set up all over the world. Being a developing nation, India, too welcomed shopping malls as a new platform for purchases and sales, where all ages people like to visit and do the shopping sustaining consumerism. This is one dimension of the shopping malls. But if we look at the macro level, then malls do contribute much to creating employment and engaging its young working population. Creating jobs help in creating aggregate demand and also helps in increasing investments. Urbanization demands malls today. Malls in India, provide jobs to lakhs of the youngsters who are in search of gig or temporary jobs. This study was carried out on employment in malls in the thane district, in which the major objectives were to analyze employment provided in the mall with its dimensions. Right from the recruitment, training, compensation, communication, appraisal, etc. dimensions are into consideration in this study. The main objective behind this was to understand the nature of employment provided by the malls in the light of their policies and strategies. As malls grow, there are more jobs created for the job seekers. newlineEmployment may be formal or informal, but the welfare of employees should not be overlooked. The mall management has open employment opportunities, for undergraduates to graduates to have jobs in the mall easily. The malls do have provisions for stress management, appraisal system, grievance mechanism, training, and development forum to take care of their employees. Being in the service industry, malls train their employees to lure and attract customers, to have soft communication with them, and try to retain them for a long. Malls appoint them on various designations such as sales counter, back office, menial staff, security, etc. The fact is that the jobs provided by the malls are not permanent.
