Abstract: | Antioxidants are compounds that prevent the oxidation of essential biological macromolecules by inhibiting the propagation of the oxidising chain reaction. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidizing agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals. In turn, these radicals can start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions. They do this by being oxidised themselves, so antioxidants are often reducing agents such as thiols, ascorbic acid or polyphenols. Although oxidation reactions are crucial for life, they can also be damaging; hence plants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin-C and vitamin-E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases. newlineA lot of medicinal plants, traditionally used for thousands of years, are present in a group of herbal preparations of the Indian traditional health care system (Ayurveda) named Rasayana proposed for their interesting antioxidant activity and potential therapeutic properties. As plants produce a lot of antioxidants to control the oxidative stress caused, they can represent a source of new compounds with antioxidant potential. newlineIn present study, Momordica dioica plant samples that are fruits and roots were extracted in two different solvents based on their polarity. Hence altogether we obtained 04 extracts which were later on screened for various parameters like qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytoconstituents, thin layer chromatography, antioxidant assay, In Vitro cytotoxicity assay, characterization of compounds via HR-LCMS and molecular docking newlineThe extracts tested out for presence of phytochemicals like proteins, carbohydrates, phenols and tannins, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, steroids, terpenoids, alkaloids, phlobatannins, fixed oils and fatty acids. While, quantitative analysis of total phenolics |
