Abstract: | MANET is today s generation popular wireless networking technology. It facilitates high degree flexibility and anytime, anywhere connectivity to its users. The various characteristics of Manets such as infrastructure less, dynamic nature, multihop routing, limited physical security and constrained availability of power and bandwidth, made them vulnerable to various types of attacks existing at different layers of Manets especially at the network layer. Therefore security is the prime research issue for Manets. This research work presents the detailed study of security issue in Manets. The research has proposed and designed a new algorithm named SAODV of security particularly against intrusion attacks in routing protocols caused by the malicious or intruder nodes. The new scheme can efficiently detect the intruder or malicious node and successfully remove the intruder as well as maintain the data communication by discovering a new secure path. It also compares the newly designed algorithm with the existing algorithms of Manets routing in order to have an optimized approach. The new security algorithm has been designed over the AODV as its base protocol. In order to achieve the objectives of research and development of algorithm to achieve security particularly against intrusion, simulations has been designed using NS2.34 simulator by creating scenes using TCL scripts for simulations. For this effect of malicious nodes is studied in detail for the two most popular routing protocols of Manets AODV and DSR. It has been accomplished by designing simulation scenes without and with the presence of malicious nodes in routing path. The malicious nodes create different types of intrusions in the routing of packets which results in different attacks on Manets. The research work has also presented detailed discussion on different types of attacks in Manets. Then the simulation scenes are created and checked after removal of intrusion with the help of newly designed algorithm in NS2.34. In the end comparison has been conducted between the existing and newly designed algorithm of security. The performance comparison and evaluation of newly designed algorithm has been done using the metrics namely PDR (Packet Delivery Ratio), Throughput achieved and End-to-end delay. The results of research conducted have been explained pictorially with the help of graphs. The graphs clearly demonstrate the successful completion of all research objectives.
