Abstract: Ionizing radiation exposure is detrimental to all organisms as it might lead to unpredictable stages of chromosomal alterations or in due course death. Artificial complexes have been utilized to neutralize the harmful influence of radiation on living cells; however, the prospect of these artificial complexes being detrimental to the organism that is undergoing treatment is also present. The use of plant extracts and phytochemicals in cancer therapy has increased over the years, not only for its anticancer property but also in protection of healthy cells from cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of cancer therapy and radiation therapy. Such formulations from herbs are recently getting investigated as a probable substitute for the synthetic radioprotectant. Selective radioprotection of normal cells while radiosensitizing cancer cells by phytocompounds is a subject that is rarely studied newline
