Abstract: In the three tier panchayat raj system, the Gram Panchayat Members newline(G.P.Ms.) may have an important role in agricultural development in Uttar newlinePradesh. Thus keeping in this view, the thesis entitled, A study on newlineawareness and role of Gram Panchayat Members in agricultural newlinedevelopment in Uttar Pradesh , was conducted in the present study. The newlinetwo districts namely-Azamgarh and Meerut were selected purposively in newlineUttar Pradesh state. The four blocks namely-Mehnagar and Koilsa from newlineAzamgarh district and Daurala and Mawana from Meerut district were newlineselected randomly. The five Gram Panchayats From each block were newlineselected randomly, thus the total twenty Gram Panchayats were selected newlinefrom both districts for the study. All the Gram Panchayat Members of newlinetwenty Gram Panchayats were selected purposively for the study. newlineThe findings of the research stated that maximum number of newlinerespondents (Gram Panchayat Members) were literate, in the age group of newline33-46 year, belonged backward caste, single family, having agriculture as a newlinemain occupation, participated in one organization, the majority of Gram newlinePanchayat Members were having farm power, cycle and motor cycle. The newlinemajority of Gram Panchayat Members had mobile phone followed by radio newlineand television as main source of information. The Gram Panchayat newlineMembers contacted with Gram Pradhan was maximum among a formal newlinesource followed by Kisan Sahayak and V.D.Os. In case of informal newlinesources, the maximum contact of Gram Panchayat Members was seen with newlinefamily members followed by friends, relatives and T.V. as a main source newlineof mass media exposure followed by radio and news paper for founding newlineagricultural information. The majority of respondents were found medium newlinelevel of economic motivation, medium level of scientific orientation, newlinemedium level of risk orientation and medium level of value orientation. newlineMajority of respondents were observed in the medium category of newlineawareness extent and low category of role performance about agricultural newlinedevelopment programme.
