Abstract: The fast exhaustion of conventional energy accompanied with increasing demand, major newlinecontributions of air pollutants are basically based on the significant role of petroleum fuels. newlineThroughout the world attempts are being made to reduce the use of petroleum fuels in these newlinedays. The fossil fuel is major source of energy supply in India. Hence it is high time to find newlinean alternative indigenous source of fuels to engines now. newlineBeing an agricultural economy, having more scope of production of fuels from newlineagricultural seeds, vegetables etc. Biodiesel is more effective an alternative source of diesel newlineas it possesses portability, availability, renewability more heat content aromatic content, newlinelower sulfur and also bio degradability factors. newlineIn the present work Used Temple Oil (UTO) has been considered of study since it is newlineavailable in abundantly in India. As India is land of temples where in hundreds of devotees newlinepour oil on idols such as Hanuman, Shanishawar, Shiva and Nandhi due to various newlinemythological and religious reasons, huge quantity of oil is also given to temples for lamping newlinelights which is also collected daily or weekly basis, this collected oil may be edible or non newlineedible depending upon the oils available in a specific area. This excess collection of oil from newlinetemples may be sold out in the public in order to avoid its wastage even some private temples newlinewill sell this excess oil to low rate to the nearby hotels, sometimes this types of oil is mixture newlineof unknown oils and not knowing their expiry date which in turn affect to the human life. newlineThe raw oil cannot be used directly in diesel engine application due to fuel injection newlineproblems. Hence transesterification process adopted to condition the oil to suit as fuel for newlinecompression ignition (CI) engine application. The factors effecting on production of newlinebiodiesel such as catalyst concentration, molar ratio and reaction time are optimized. The newlineresult of this study in a maximum yield of biodiesel as 94.51% with the optimal conditions newlinethe molar ratio 6:1
