The present investigation entitled Genetic studies in induced mutant newlinepopulation of M2 and M3 generations in field bean [Lablab purpureus var. newlinelignosus (L.) Prain] was carried out at the Dr. YSRHU-COH, Anantharajupeta, newlineDr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University, Andhra Pradesh during 2019-22. A total of 33 newlinemutant lines including control were evaluated in M2 generation under randomized newlineblock design to document information on macro and micro mutations. Desirable newlinemutants selected from the M2 generation along with their parent were studied for newlinegrowth, yield and yield attributes in the M3 generation. All the mutant lines of M3 newlinegeneration were progressed to M4 generation and the growth, yield and quality newlineparameters, the extent of genetic variability induced and the relationship between newlinedifferent characters through correlation, path coefficient analysis and newlineintergeneration correlation were recorded. The study also aimed to assess the newlineextent of genetic diversity present in the mutant population of the M4 generation newlineby using D2 analysis. The elite mutants of M4 generation are to be progressed to newlineM5 generation for further studies. newlineMacro mutations observed in the mutant population of all generations were newlinewith light and dark green leaves, presence of stem anthocyanin, pink coloured newlineinflorescence, presence of constriction in pods, round shaped seed and four seed newlinecolours viz., black, dark brown, light brown and cream. newlineHigh significant differences were observed for all the traits in the three newlinegenerations except for the stomatal conductance in the M3 generation. In M2 newlinegeneration, M2.1 recorded shortest plants with a mean of 142.85 cm whereas M2.31 newlinerecorded highest number of primary branches per plant with a mean of 4.14. newlineMutant line M2.10 observed least days to flowering with 41.66 mean, 50% newlineflowering with 48.12 mean and highest rate of photosynthesis with 13.76 newlineAuthor : S.
