Abstract: Over the last two decades, cloud computing has gained huge attention of technical and scientific communities with a paradigm shift in demand for cost-effective, reliable and scalable solutions towards data intensive computing. Driven by the surge in global dat- acenter traffic, cloud applications hosted on the datacenters are aiming towards maxi- mization of resource utilization. Maximization of the resource utilization leads to higher energy consumption, overall cost and carbon emission of the datacenters respectively. However, higher levels of resource utilization in turn adversely affects the profit margins of the cloud service providers (CSPs) and environment at large. Thisleadsustotheproblemofmaximizingthecloudresourceutilizationwhilekeep- ing the interest of the CSPs intact. Our motivation is to design green or sustainable com- puting solution frameworks to the proposed problem domain. The performance of the proposed solution frameworks mainly depends on several parameters like, a) Amount of renewableenergyresourcesusedb)Costofnon-renewableenergyresourcesc)Availabil- ity of renewable energy resources with respect to time d) Threshold value for utilization of non-renewable energy e) Arrival time, duration of execution and energy requirement of the user requests (URs). Therefore, the designed solution frameworks should have the methodstoenhancethegreenenergyconsumptionandreducetheenergycostofthedata- centers, while ensuring maximization of datacenter resource utilization and profits of the CSP s. newline
