A mixed-method study has been conducted to understand the role of contextual variables in acquiring science concepts among ninth-grade students. The sample was obtained from 325 students from public schools in Chandigarh, India. Survey research instruments for quantitative data collection were constructed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The findings obtained after the correlation of results suggest a significant relationship between acquisition of science concepts with variables of attitude towards science, engagement in science activities, and the environment of science laboratories. The significance of the study highlights the role of factors that are far away from textbook learning in regulating the acquisition of concepts among students. newline
