Abstract: This chapter presents an overview of various applications, physical and chemical properties of newlinemetal-oxide nanostructures with particular focus on ZnO. The hydrothermal route for synthesis of newlinenanostructures is discussed. Based on the literature, applications of ZnO nanostructures in selfcleaning, newlinesurface enhanced Raman scattering and photoluminescence are reviewed. Finally, newlinemotivation of the present work based on research gaps and objectives of the thesis are presented. newline
