Abstract: | The security of the wireless communication system has rapidly increased in recent years. The Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is one of the most widely used technologies in our daily lives. It has attractive features where the users can communicate in a free, open environment. The open nature of WSN makes it vulnerable to various malicious attacks. Many kinds of research works have focused on the security issues in WSN from multiple perspectives in the past several years. One of the most frequently used attacks is the Denial of Service (DoS) attack, also known as a jamming attack. It prevents communication between two entities by damaging the network and degrades the performance of the network. This type of attack blocks the ongoing communication and reduces the lifetime of the network by exhausting the energy of the sensor nodes. Jamming attacks are present in the physical, datalink, and network layers of the network. The physical layer is the bottom most layer of the network; it is the one which is responsible for the generation of frequency, modulation, signal detection. As jamming is the interference of the signal, physical layer is more prominent to jamming attack. newlineThe effects of jamming are investigated in many of the existing research works. The common mechanisms such as the markov model, game theory, regression techniques suffer from network resources, difficulty in the usage of encryption and decryption techniques, lack of energy, high complexity, computational cost, etc. Therefore, guarding against the DoS attacks is a critical component of any security system. But there is a lack of research for preventing such attacks. newlineThis research work proposes three different techniques to detect jamming attacks in Wireless Sensor Networks. newline |
