Abstract: | x newlineABSTRACT newlineDiabetes is a one of the grown threat to the health and well-being of newlineIndians. Tamil Nadu is one of the states in India which is highly affected by the newlinedevastating complications related to diabetes. This is the time for health newlinepsychologist to facilitate along with medical-health care providers for effective newlinediabetes self-care management to curtail the consequences of diabetes. newlineCommons Sense Model of illness behavior provided the framework for newlinehealth psychology research as a distinctive pattern. CSM articulates that a health newlineimbalance or illness threat is processed at a cognitive and emotional level. newlineEmerging schema from the Common Sense Model of illness behavior has been newlinevariously used by researchers i.e., Illness Perception/Illness newlineRepresentation/Personal Model of illness . The framework of the illness newlineperception includes the choice of coping procedures to the illness threat; and also newlineleads to appraise the coping strategies which are adopted by a person. In addition newlineto that self-determination theory focuses on the reasons behind an adherence of newlinethe treatment regimens. newlineThe present study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase of this newlinestudy, the researcher used a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional design and newlinethe following research queries were posed. 1. What is the interrelationship newlinebetween illness perception, treatment self-regulation, self-care behavior and newlineglycemic control of type II diabetes? 2. To what extent type II diabetic patients newlineillness perception and treatment self-regulation can influence self-care behavior? newline3. How illness perception and treatment self-regulation can influence glycemic newlinexi newlinecontrol of type II diabetes? 4. In what way theoretical assumptions of CSM and newlineself-determination theory could fit in type II diabetic patients self-care behavior newlineand glycemic control. Illness perception was measured using illness perception newlinequestionnaire-revised. Self-determination was tested using Treatment Self- newlineRegulation Questionnaire- concerning diabetes.
