dc.description.abstract | Hydraulic equipment like slurry pumps, hydro turbines, pipes, propellers, etc and also certain components, which are subjected to high temperatures, namely Internal Combustion engines, Gas turbines, Industrial waste incinerators, Generation IV reactors etc suffer from Erosion corrosion problems. Numerous Coating materials are available to counter act the problems posed by this defect. But, from the studies, it has been found that Iron (Fe) based amorphous coatings are more effective in protecting the substrate from this synergistic effect. newlineSelection of a suitable material for the substrates is the primary task and is implemented by decision-making techniques. The commercially available powder Tungsten Carbide -Cobalt-Chrome (WC-Co-Cr) have been developed with appropriate compositions, atomized by gas and then coated on the substrate material. Microstructural analysis of the coatings were also carried out. newlineHard Chromium (Cr) coatings were used to improve corrosion in surfaces and strength of wear a few years ago. But they were replaced with Chromium Carbide (Cr3C2) and Tungsten Carbide (WC) based coatings because of certain environmental problems. During the High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) process the pulverised particles quick speed and low temperature imply that the decarburization of the carbide is severely restricted. In addition, moderate porosity and high adhesion to the base are present with HVOF coatings. WC coatings have been widely developed to increase the characteristics of various mechanical newlinecomponents sensitive to abrasive wears, such as automobiles, building equipment, mining systems and power generation. WC-Co-Cr is an excellent coating material for mitigating abrasive wear because of the appropriate mix from hard-phase WC particles and the strong and durable metallic matrix Cobalt Chromium (Co Cr). newline newline | |
