Abstract: | This thesis entitled Humanistic Approach in the Select Works of Rohinton Mistry newlineand David Davidar: A Study attempts to study the quintessence of the humanistic ideals in newlinethe select novels and the approach of the novelists. Based upon the deeper study of the newlineselect novels of Mistry and Davidar, the thesis brings the novelists humanistic approach newlinetowards the lives of ordinary man by examining both internal and external factors which newlinelead to the adversities of human beings individually as well as collectively. Humanistic newlineapproaches of Rohinton Mistry and David Davidar in the multi layers such as self, newlinefamilial, social and national are critically analysed. The study has been carried out from newlinethree important directions. Firstly, it applies the theoretical framework of humanistic notes newlinethrough the lives of the characters in the select novels by investigating the relationship newlinebetween human sufferings and their causes. Secondly, it discusses important human ideals newlinein collective lives. And thirdly, it analyses social and state machineries which powerfully newlineinfluence the lives of ordinary man. newlineThe study has been carried out with Rohinton Mistry s three novels such as Such A newlineLong Journey (1991), A Fine Balance (1995) and Family Matters (2002) and Davidar newlineDavidar s two novels such as The House of Blue Mangoes (2002) and The Solitude of newlineEmperors (2007). This thesis is divided into six chapters understandably. While the first newlinechapter is introductory in nature and the sixth chapter draws conclusions, the remaining newlinefour chapters from second chapter to fifth chapter constitute the core of this study. newlineThe fundamentals of the thesis topic are concepts of humanism, humanists and newlinehumanistic approach. This is also related to Renaissance Humanism, Religious Humanism, newlineSecular Humanism, New Humanism, Indian Humanism, Modern Humanism and newlineUniversal Humanism. The connotation of concepts has constantly changed themselves newlineover the centuries. newline |
