Abstract: The present investigation deals with studies on the removal of dye newlineMethylene Blue (MB) , Malachite Green (MG) by adsorption on activated newlinecarbon Vembu Sulphuric acid Activated Carbon (VSAC), Vembu Phosphoreic newlineacid Activated Carbon (VPAC), Teakwood Sulphuric acid Activated Carbon newline(TSAC) and Teakwood Phosphoreic acid Activated Carbon (TPAC). The newlineexperimental parameters which affect the extent of adsorption of dyes are initial newlineconcentration, contact time, dose of adsorbent, particle size and pH of the newlinesolution. The effect of these parameters on the extent of removal of dye by newlineadsorption on VSAC, VPAC, TSAC and TPAC has been studied. Various newlineexperiments were conducted by varying any one of these experimental newlineparameters, like initial concentration, contact time, dose of adsorbent, pH of the newlinesolution. Further, the present work reported the adsorption of Cr (VI) from newlineaqueous solutions on activated carbon prepared from teak wood waste. Biomass newlinefrom teak wood were taken out and pulverized in a micro-pulverizing mill. The newlinepowder thus obtained was activated with 40% H3PO4 and carbonized at 600 °C newlinefor 1 hour in an inert atmosphere. Physico-chemical characteristics such as newlinefunctional groups and surface morphology of the activated carbon were newlineanalyzed using FTIR spectroscopy and SEM analysis respectively. Batch newlineadsorption experiments were performed to investigate the effects of Cr (VI) newlineconcentration, carbon dose, pH and time. The maximum adsorption capacity of newlineCr(VI) was found to be 1.5 g/L at pH 3 and temperature 30±1 °C. The newlineFreundlich adsorption isotherm best represented the equilibrium data and a newlinepseudo-second order relation represented the adsorption kinetics. newline
