Abstract: | xiv newlineABSTRACT newlineBackground: Adolescence is a critical period of development between childhood and newlineadulthood. Children go through major changes in their lives across several changes newlinephysically, psychologically and socially which has a huge impact on them. This stage newlineis prone to the development of various psychological illnesses if essential care is not newlinegiven. The sociological backgrounds of these adolescents have shown to affect their newlinewell-being and cause emotional issues resulting in behavioral and emotional problems. newlineAmong adolescents, neglected children who were most exposed to trauma and newlineexploitation were found to have higher behavioral and conduct disorders. Therefore, it newlinewas important to understand their emotional regulation and the factors affecting it. newlineMeta- emotions and its emotional regulatory properties were shown to affect newlineemotional regulation among people. Further, due to their exposures to trauma, it was newlineimportant to study their resilience and coping styles and how this affected their newlineemotional regulation. newlineMethod: The present study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase of the newlinestudy, adolescents based on their social backgrounds were divided into three groups newline(N=313), adolescents from private schools, government schools and institutional newlinehome. The first phase tried to determine which among the three groups had the highest newlinelevel of difficulties with emotional regulation, and highest presence of negative metaemotions newlineand lowest positive meta-emotions. Assessment tools used in this phase was, newlineMeta Emotions Scale by Mitmansgruber (2009) and Difficulties in Emotional newlineRegulation Scale (DERS) by Gratz and Roomer (2004) newlinexv newlineIn the second phase of the study (N= 667), the group with the highest level of newlinedifficulties with emotional regulation and highest negative meta-emotions were newlinescreened in. The relationship between meta-emotions, difficulties in emotional newlineregulation, resilience and coping styles were assessed.
