Abstract: Background: newlineIn the current global scenario, treatment that prioritizes autonomy of the patient is the newlinemost desired modality. Even in treatment of patients with oral cancer, there is a trend newlinethat is moving from conventional outcomes of survival and response rate to newlinepersonalized management that encompasses multiple outcomes. newlineAims: newlineand#9679; To document clinical findings in Tobacco Usage, Oral Potentially Malignant newlineDisorders (OPMD) and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) newlineand#9679; To correlate the clinico-pathological features of OPMD and OSCC newlineand#9679; To analyze the activities within oral pathology laboratory and attempt to improve newlinethe quality of reporting newlineand#9679; To analyze the oral health related quality of life (QOL( among patients with newlinetobacco usage, OPMD and OSCC newlineMaterials and Methods: newlineThe clinical findings and demographic characteristics were recorded, tabulated newlineand statistically analysed. The activities within the oral pathology laboratory were newlinedocumented and analysed. Special stains and Immunohistochemistry was performed newlineas per manufacturer s instructions. Oral health related Quality of Life Outcomes were newlinedocumented and correlated with clinico-pathological features. newlineResults: newlineOur studies revealed that tobacco usage was predominantly associated with newline(OPMD) and (OSCC). Non-habit associated OSCC was also noted. Ayoub-Shklar stain newlineAbstract newlinewas proven to be effective in identifying Keratin. Immunohistochemical studies with newlineBCL2 showed progressive decrease in expression among OPMD and OSCC whereas newlineCK8/18 showed progressive increase in the same groups. Laboratory optimization with newlinefrequent monitoring and digitization, cost-utility analysis and rectification of laboratory newlineerrors was effective. A decrease in overall health and overall QOL after newlinediagnosis/treatment of OPMD and OSCC was observed. newlineConclusion: newlineJerjes W et al have reported that delay in pathological tissue processing time newlinehas been associated with increased mortality rate, especially in oral cancer patients newlinewith recurrence.
