Abstract: | The study on social-cognition development among pre-school children: correlates and newlineintervention was conducted in University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, during the year newline2019-22. The objectives of the present study are, assessing the social-cognition development newlineand influence of selected variables on social-cognition among urban and rural pre-school newlinechildren; developing and providing intervention programme for mothers on social-cognition newlineand testing the efficacy of intervention programme on social-cognition development among newlinepre-school children. The total sample comprised of 180 pre-school children and mothers, out newlineof which 86 children were from urban and 94 children were from rural locality. Differential newlineand correlation design was employed to know the difference and relationship between newlineselected variables and social-cognition among urban and rural pre-school children. Theory of newlinemind inventory, social-skills, parent-child conversation, parenting relationship, peer play newlinebehavior and child temperament tools were used for data collection. newlineThe results revealed that, majority of pre-school children from both urban (53.49%) newlineand rural (51.06%) locality had average level of social-cognition whereas, children belonged newlineto low level of social-cognition was substantially high among rural (34.04%). There was newlinesignificant association and difference was observed among, age, ordinal position, child newlinetemperament and type of family with social-cognition development of pre-school children, newlineindicating that children belonged to 4-6 years, later borns, temperament in the dimension of newlinemoderate level of sugency and high level of effortful control had better social-cognition as newlinecompared to others. The children with good social-skills and interactive peer-play behavior newlineshowed better social-cognition.
