Abstract: The present investigation deals with mutation breeding approach to induce genetic newlinevariations in the germplasm under study in a quick span of time. For the purpose, the research newlineinvestigation encompasses the following: newline1. Collection of germplasm (seed) newline2. Cytomorphological analysis of C. sativum is performed newline3. Synthesis of cadmium sulphide and copper oxide nanoparticles using wet chemical coprecipitation newlinemethod newline4. Opto-physical characterization of synthesized NPs by using UV-vis, FTIR, XRD, newlineDLS, FESEM for assurance of nano standard quality newline5. Treatments newlineand#61558;and#61472;Nanoparticles applied: newlineCdS-NPs: 0.25, 0.50 and 1.00 and#956;g mL-1, 2 and 4 h durations newlineCuO-NPs: 0.25, 0.50 and 1.00 and#956;g mL-1, 2 and 4 h durations newlineand#61558;and#61472;Mutagens applied: newlineEMS: 0.25, 0.50 and 1.00%, 2 and 4 h durations newlineGamma irradiations: 50, 100, 200 and 300 Gy, source 60Co newline6. Determination of the uptake of NPs (ionic form) in seedling ash following the use of newlineAtomic Absorption Spetroscopy (AAS) newline7. Assessment of stress induction (measured from Evans blue uptake, H2O2 and MDA newlineaccumulation) and subsequent antioxidant enzymes (APX, tSOD, MDAR, GR and newlineGST) responses in the NPs (CdS- and CuO-NPs) mediated cellular environment newline8. Estimation of genotoxicity (measured from tail DNA percentage) induced by newlinenanomaterials (NPs-DNA interaction) following comet assay (single cell gel newlineelectrophoresis) and also from detection of micronuclei in nanomaterial treated resting newlinecells newline9. Raising of M1 plant population in the field plots of Department of Botany, Kalyani newlineUniversity newline10. Assessment of mutagenic sensitivity of the treating agents in relation to concern newlinegenotype from M1 parameters like seed germination frequency, seedling length, newlineassessment of injury and mitotic aberrations from Petri plates and field germination newlinefrequency, meiotic analysis and seed yield and pollen grains fertility newline11. Comprehensive analysis of mitotic and meiotic chromosomes (induced by CdS-NPs, newlineCuO-NPs, EMS and gamma irradiations) behavior at M1 newline12. Seeds of the individual plants are collected and kept in desiccator
