Abstract: | Agriculture is the largest income-generating operation in India and also employs the newlinehighest number of working people. Directly or indirectly, nearly 70 per cent of the people newlineof India are dependent on agriculture with 82 per cent of the farmers in the small and newlinemarginal category 1 . In the context of severe change in the economic policy, it becomes newlinenecessary for the farmers to maintain accounting in a systematic manner not only for newlineindividual interest but also for the interest of farmers community as a whole in order to newlineevaluate performance of agricultural operations. Different professional accounting newlineinstitutions and authors have not yet paid adequate attention to meet the need of newlineagricultural accounting for the large number of Indian farmers. However, structure of newlineaccounting that is suggested by various accounting institutions and authors are not suitable newlinefor farmers whose level of education and workable accounting knowledge are low. newlineTherefore, simple system of agricultural accounting for the farmers can play a very newlineimportant role in making agricultural operations profitable, lucrative and market oriented. newlineThus, for satisfying the necessities from various angles, use of agricultural accounting and newlineits popularization has become the need of the day. newline |
