The content of this thesis is devided into five chapters. The introductory chapter focuses on newlinethe overview of the NADPH-dependent oxidoreductases and their role in the biosynthesis newlineof polyketide based natural products as well as their promiscuity towards the development newlineof new biocatalytic methods. The second chapter presents the first-ever synthesis of newlinedimeric, (and#8210;)-rugulosin and the putative biosynthetic intermediates using a chemoenzymatic newlineapproach. newlineNADPH-dependent newlinepolyhydroxyanthracene newlinereductase newline(PHAR)/anthrol newlinereductase was used to catalyze the key step and implies similar biosynthetic steps. The third newlinechapter illustrates the asymmetric synthesis of natural dihydroarenediols using newlinetetrahydroxynaphthalene reductase (T 4 HNR) of Magnaporthe grisea The fourth chapter newlinedescribes the development of a biocatalytic method for Ipso-hydroxylation of boronic acids newlineusing flavin-dependent nitroreductase (NfsB) of E. coli. The fifth chapter represents the newlinepromiscuity of Cytochrome c of Rhodothermus marinus towards carbene insertion into N- newlineH bond. newline
