Abstract: Rabindranath Tagore was a realistic and naturalistic philosopher, writer in the field of newlineBengali short stories throughout the ages. The overall social perspective of nineteenth century newlineBengal highlighted in a variety of ways in his stories. With a few numbers of character and newlinevery little in nature, he tried to enlighten about the whole environmental and situational newlineperspective of the contemporary Bengali society. Besides this, the short stories of newlineRabindranath Tagore also point out about the broader perspective of education as well as newlineinformal education. Through the major principles of his stories the childrenand#8223;s may develop newlinetheir mental ability. It is very helpful towards the all round development of the children by newlinemoulding the conceptual knowledge through education of that stories. In addition to this, the newlinesocial, political, economical and aesthetic values will be developing by reading of those short newlinestories. The elements of mental development are lies in these stories, such as imagination newlinepower, thinking ability, interest, language, moral development, creativity, motivation, newlineintelligence, etc. newlineThe ten short stories of Rabindra Nath Tagore selected randomly and chronologically as newlineprimary source by the researcher are Megh O Roudraand#8223;, Chhutiand#8223;, Atithiand#8223;, Rabibarand#8223;, Shastiand#8223;, newline Postmasterand#8223;, Subhaand#8223;, Kabuliwalaand#8223; Halder Gosthiand#8223;, Mastermashaiand#8223;. By the proper newlineapplication of the principles of these stories the childrenand#8223;s must be able to all round newlinedevelopment of their character and they should get an enjoyment in the process of learning. newlineSimultaneously, education should be related with the life outside the school. newlineThe subsequent chapter and the components, influencing on mental development are newlineexamined, in different ways, at the secondary level students in West Bengal. newline newline
