Abstract: | newline Seabuckthorn (Hippophae Sp.), an ecologically important medicinal plant species, is newlinewidely spread across the high rigid terrains of the Indian Himalayas. The species is a newlinestorehouse of potential bioactive compounds having immense nutritive and newlinetherapeutic value. The plant is also known to harbor many advantageous agronomic newlinecharacteristics and, therefore, sustains yield and growth in a wide range of extremities newlinelike drought, salinity, and varying temperature. Seabuckthorn is known to exist as a newlinedioecious species; however, deciphering the gender of the plant morphologically is newlinenot possible at the early stages of plant growth till the plant attains maturity in 3-4 newlineyears. There is a severe lack of molecular markers, for genetic diversity assessment, newlinesex identification, and transcriptome level investigations to identify multiple genes newlinethat regulate distinct roles in seabuckthorn physiology and development. The newlinescientific community has initiated efforts towards the conservation and improvement newlineof seabuckthorn, the wonder plant with multifarious properties; however, there is still newlinea limitation of resources at the genomic and transcriptome levels. newlineEvaluation of genetic diversity prevailing in the natural strands in varied newlinegeographical regions is important as the plant species is being exploited for its newlinemanifold importance causing a threat to the extinction of potential genotypes. The newlinefemale plants of seabuckthorn are obviously preferred over the male plants as the newlinephytonutrient rich fruits are born by only female plants. Therefore, the development newlineof reliable molecular markers is necessary to identify the sex of the plant at the early newlinegrowth stage. Moreover, the plant is an inhabitant of terrains sustaining the harsh newlineenvironment and is tolerant to various abiotic stresses, and therefore, using a newlinecomputational and bioinformatics approach, it would be interesting to examine the newlinefunctional assessment of miRNA and associated genes involved in relation to various newlinestresses encountered by... |
