Investigations on techniques for Malware detection in android Applications

Abstract

The convenience and ease of use that are provided by smartphones newlinehave made them ubiquitous. This allowed the smartphones to store and process newlineseveral sensitive information. This has paved way for hackers to find ways newlinefor exploiting the vulnerabilities present in these devices, and with Android newlinedominating the mobile market in the recent years, Android OS have become newlinethe main target of these attackers. Hence, it has become a matter of utmost newlineimportance to find mechanisms to detect these malwares. newlineThe existing techniques for malware detection are not very efficient newlinein detecting new malwares. The conventional anti-virus applications use newlinesignature based method of detecting the malware, which fails to detect a newlinemalware while its signature is missing in the repository. newlineWith hundreds of new malware emerging everyday it is difficult to newlineupdate the databases very frequently, and hence new malware goes undetected. newlineAlthough few permissions are categorized as dangerous, the identification of newlinemalicious application using them is little tedious. Hence some mechanism is newlinestill needed for the detection of Android malwares. newline
