dc.description.abstract | The effective power conversion in power electronic converter fed DC and AC drives is achieved through pulse width modulation techniques. In general, the modulating and carrier waveforms are compared, and the resultant gating pulse is given to the switches of power electronic converters. The development in technologies makes the switches to be operated in high switching frequency resulting in undesirable impact on the power converter output parameters. As harmonics in the output voltage and ripple in current waveform. The proper generation of gating pulses is to maintain the volt second balance in the operating period results in effective controlling these voltage harmonics and current ripples. newlineMany modulation techniques are proposed in this work to improvise the performance of the inverter, but each exhibits its own merits and demerits. Conventional Space Vector Modulation (CSVM) has more advantage by controlling inverter performance through voltage vectors, Selective Harmonic Elimination (SHE) has the virtue of eliminating desired harmonics in the output and Random PWM (RPWM) has the benefit of spreading the harmonics throughout the spectrum. To make use of these techniques, a hybrid pulse width modulation technique is developed in this work which balances the different inverter performance parameters such as voltage harmonic distortion, current harmonic distortion, flux ripple factor, switching losses and harmonic spreading factor.
