Abstract: Inceptive research trials on composite materials for roofing started in newlinethe early twentieth century. Naturally, neither all the materials possessed the newlinedesired properties nor all the requisite properties were present in one material. newlineHence it has become the need of the hour to invent newer materials with optimal newlineproperties. This paved the way for the development of composites. In recent newlinetimes, composite materials, being heterogenous by nature have increasingly newlinereplaced the homogenous conventional materials. Past three decades witnessed a newlinerapid growth in the development of heterogeneous materials for roofing. newlineGlass reinforced plastics have been used to produce building newlinecomponents such as roofing, laminate, door surrounds, over-door canopies, newlinewindow canopies, dormers and chimneys. Fibre glass roofing sheets are newlinemechanically strong, light weight, impact resistant, flexible and practically newlineunbreakable. Undoubtedly, it is much more resistant to chemical corrosion. Fiber newlineglass roof sheets provide natural light with roof cover. The sheets can be newlineinstalled with ease and they come in various decorative colours. Emphasis on the newlinedevelopment of new materials and technology for the building industry has been newlinethere for the past few decades, especially in developing countries so that the newlineoverall cost of construction becomes affordable to the people. Roof is one of the newlinemain building elements which constitute about 10% of the total cost of newlineconstruction. Roofing material is the outermost layer on the roof of a building. newlineThe outer layer of a roof shows great variation depending upon availability of newlinematerial, and the nature of the supporting structure. newlineEach year, millions of tons of nylon waste emanating from fishing is newlineproduced globally. Significant amount of discarded fishing nets are being newlinedumped ignorantly and cannot be retrieved easily for reuse. Nylon fibers are newlinemore attractive for reinforcement and it provides good conformability for newlineadvanced roofing sheets newline
