Influence of Psychosocial Factors in Career Decision Making Among Adolescents

Abstract

Super (1976) defined career as The sequence of major positions occupied by a person throughout his pre-occupational, occupational and post occupational life; including work related roles such as those of student, employee, and pensioner, together with complementary vocational, familial and civil roles (p. 20). As indicated by the definition, a career plays a vital role throughout the life of an individual. Hence it is vital to choose appropriate career decisions in the life of an individual. Adolescence is the transition state during which students have to decide what course to choose for higher studies. Some students find it easy to make career decisions whereas some students find it difficult. Inability to make effective career decisions lead to career indecision, which is a developmental phase through which people pass through in the process of making career decision-making.
