Abstract: | In the modern world, the sensitive devices such as medical equipments, newlineautomation devices used in the industries, digital computers, variable frequency newlinedrives, consumer electronics, programmable logic controller and Computer newlineNumerical Control (CNC) machines demands a high quality of electrical supply. newlineOperating the above said electrical apparatus in the polluted electrical supply newlinecauses equipment malfunction and reduced lifespan of the electrical newlineequipment s. This may bring severe losses to the industrial consumers and end newlineusers. At the same time, the non-linear loads connected with the electric utility newlinesystem introduces voltage sag, real and reactive power losses, voltage swell, newlineflicker, voltage and current harmonics into the supply system. Among these, the newlinevoltage and current harmonics are the two main dangerous threats for the newlinesensitive electrical equipments. newlineThe current harmonics injected into the power distribution network newlinedeteriorate the quality of the power by increasing the Total Harmonic Distortion newline(THD). The injection of harmonic current causes the reduction of overall system newlineefficiency, failure of sensitive loads and overheating of equipment. The voltage newlineand current harmonics need to be eliminated to enhance the quality of the power newlinedelivered to the electrical equipment. The passive and active power filters are newlineintended to protect the sensitive electrical equipments from the current and newlinevoltage harmonics induced by the non-linear loads. The passive elements such newlineresistors, capacitor and inductors are utilized to construct the passive low pass, newlinehigh pass, band pass and band reject filters. The RC, LC and and#960; filters are mostly newlineused to remove the voltage harmonics from the inverter output and from the newlinedistribution network newline |
