dc.description.abstract | The Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding is a fusion welding process conventionally used to weld materials for important applications such as in rocketry, aviation, sheet metal and racing technologies. Aluminum (Al) alloys are having propounding properties which make them useful in automotive components still there are some cons in joining them. While joining dissimilar Al alloys the formation of intermetallic at the joint interface can create disruptions that can affect joint strength. AA5083-H111 is a versatile aluminium alloy with moderate magnesium content, and work hardening can improve its strength. AA5083-H111is a strain hardened, cold-rolled with high fatigue strength, enhanced formability, weldability, workability with good corrosion resistance against salt-water. The aluminum alloy AA5754-H111 is a heat-treatable alloy, and it contains silicon and magnesium as primary alloying elements. The alloy comprises magnesium silicate, which is accountable for heat treatable and intermediate strengthening characteristics of the alloy. This alloy is capable of extrusion probabilities and can be formed into sheets and plates for various applications. The most common applications AA5083-H11 and AA5754-H111 joints are found in automotive suspensions, steering racks, vehicle power-train shafts, engine valve components, etc. The motivation of the present work is concentrated on the joining of Al alloys by proper selection of process parameters and to analyze its influence on weld strength. The proper combination of process parameters during welding and suitable characterization with the help of metallurgical and mechanical testing may provide information related to final weld strength. The selected welding technique should be environmentally friendly. Hence, the present study focuses on the improvement of weld quality or strength of these dissimilar joints by different forms of TIG welding processes. newline | |
