The main aim of this study is to assess the water quality, terrain conditions and to select suitable sites for different kinds of artificial recharge methods in Kadavanar watershed of Amaravathi sub-basin of Cauvery river basin, Tamil Nadu. In order to accomplish the objectives, the proposed research work has been divided into six major parts. They are (i) Data collection (ii) Preparation of thematic maps from toposheets and satellite imageries (iii) Field investigation and sampling (iv) Water quality analysis and interpretation (v) Geophysical Survey (vi) Groundwater Potential Zone Identification and Artificial Recharge Site selection. newlineThe area we have selected for this study is Kadavanar watershed. The Kadavanar is one of the watersheds in Amaravathi sub-basin of in Cauvery river basin. The Study area is located in Dindigul and small part of Karur district. The research area falls between 10°10 57and#8214; to 10°52 49and#8214; Northern latitude and 77°37 31and#8214; to 78°13 47and#8214; of Eastern longitude. The total area of the Kadavanar watershed is2254.66 Sq.km of this, 397.08 Sq.km is Hill and forest area and the remaining 1857.58 Sq.km is plain. The plain terrain is our investigation area. newlineIn this research various thematic maps such as soil permeability map are derived from soil survey and land use organization, geology map is derived from geological survey of India, land use/land cover, lineament, landforms maps are derived from satellite image, drainage pattern is taken from topographical map, topsoil, weathered zone, fracture zone thickness and resistivity maps, and an aquifer thickness spatial map are derived from geo-electrical resistivity survey data. newline
