dc.description.abstract | Due to increase energy demand, fossil fuel scarcity, reliability newlineproblems, high transmission and delivery losses, several countries are newlinecurrently looking forward to integrating renewable sources into their newlineestablished power grids. Such distributed power generation has low newlinetransmission and delivery costs in a place close to residential or industrial newlineusers. Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) systems are increasingly penetrating other newlineenergy sources since they are capable of supplying the requisite Direct newlineCurrent (DC) voltage and reducing capital costs. Due to the usage of multiple newlinenonlinear loads and sudden expansion, distribution networks face extreme newlinepower quality problems. The power quality problem arises in an event that newlineresults in a malfunction or maloperation of the system. The problem of power newlinequality includes distribution networks, production process load, sensible load, newlineetc. The problem of power quality will take on new dimensions by reforming newlinepower systems and changing the trend towards distributed power generation. newlineCustom power devices are implemented to solve the issue of power quality. newlineCustom power devices provide a range of power quality solutions. Several newlinemore versatile controllers are currently being designed to specialize in power newlineapplications, focusing on the recently available power electronic converters. newlineOne such device is the Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) for its newlinerapid reaction, durability and marginal costs, a powerful custom power newlinesystem to improve power quality. newlineThe UPQC compensates for extreme voltage sag/swell, voltage newlineimbalances and abrupt harmonics. newline | |
