Abstract: | Considering the fact that cancer cells overexpress glucose transporters particularly newlineGLUT1 and GLUT3, the inhibition of these two GLUTs is emerging as promising newlineantineoplastic therapeutic approach. Among various GLUT inhibitors, glutor has been newlinedemonstrated to cause a broad spectrum of cytostatic and cytotoxic manifestation in newlineneoplastic cells of diverse etiologies due to of its ability for pan-GLUT inhibition at low newlineconcentration compared to other common GLUT inhibitors. Moreover, glutor is newlinedemonstrated to impart its cytotoxic action in cancer cell-specific manner, without any newlineapparent inhibitory manifestations on normal healthy cells. However, several aspects newlineunderlying the antineoplastic action of glutor remain elusive and its efficacy is not newlineexamined yet under in vivo settings. Moreover, despite a wide variety of targets, the newlineanticancer action of glutor has not been evaluated on any cell line derived from thymoma. newlineFurther, many studies have demonstrated that tumor progression pattern of several nongender newlinespecific malignancies displays apparent gender dichotomy. However, it still newlineremains to be determined if glutor can exerts its antineoplastic action in gender-specific newlinemanner. newline |
