Abstract: | India has the largest number of young people in the population. With a skilled labour newlineforce, it is expected that a substantial number would take up entrepreneurship and thus newlinebecome job providers rather than becoming job seekers. However, research shows that newlineyouth generally tend to play safe and many are becoming employees. One reason is the newlinesense of security that a job provides. However, there are several associated reasons that newlinehave a great impact on this decision, the main one being a lack of supportive environment newlinefor the budding entrepreneurs. India is primarily a collective society implying that family, newlinefriends and society have a major role to play in any decision taken by an individual. In newlineother words, people don t take decisions solely based on their needs and desires; rather, newlineall decisions are taken relative to the family and society. Therefore, the attitude, beliefs, newlineopinions of family, friends and society, or the social circle of the individual greatly newlineimpacts their personal decisions including whether to be an employer or employee. newlineCurrently, Indian society is more comfortable with youth becoming employees as it gives newlinea sense of security which would ensure better matrimonial prospects. newlineHowever, for a nation to thrive and prosper, it needs both employers and employees. In newlinethe case of India, the country has an ever-rising middle-class population with aspirations newlinefor high quality goods and services to sustain a particular lifestyle. The rising demands of newlinethe society and the nation require entrepreneurship or people who can set up their own newlineventures to fulfil and benefit from this high demand. In the process, they will also be job newlinecreators, thus helping other people to thrive and prosper. newline |
