Abstract: The primary objective of this research study is to create a detailed and useful data for the newlinedesign of rural roads in Karad, District Satara using finite element method (FEM) which newlinewill boost the utilization of various combinations of types of materials and environmental newlinefactors which are associated with the in situ conditions of the study area. Firstly, newlinetheoretical rural road sections are assumed and analyzed to validate the analysis and newlinedetermine the horizontal and vertical extensions of the mesh. The critical factors such as newlinerutting and fatigue are then analyzed utilizing two dimensional axi-symmetric FEM newlineanalyses by various trials and combinations of material properties and depths of newlinecomponent layers. Optimum content of using various wastes in different layers has also newlinebeen tested by laboratory testing and analytical method. It has been observed that the newlinetensile strain acting horizontally below the bituminous layer and compressive strain newlineacting above the top of subgrade showed a decreasing trend with the increments in the newlinedepths of bituminous layer and improvement in strength of subgrade. It is thus necessary newlineto create design charts which are based on realistic in situ constraints and analytical newlinedesign methods. Such type of research for a particular case study area will produce long newlinelasting, durable pavement design and also focus on using various wastes in different newlinelayers as well. The study area also has the problem of overloaded vehicles using rural newlineroads built over poor subgrade soil. Hence, a better analysis and design methodology is newlinesuggested which will improve the performance of rural roads in the area. The hypothetical newlinesolution of the 2-D analysis for seepage and temperature in a rural road section has been newlineeffectively derived. The seepage pressures and temperature allocations within a rural road newlinesection can be easily computed if the primary circumstances are known. It has also been newlineseen from the various assumed cases for analysis that modified bituminous mixes can also newlinebe used
