Abstract: | Study was conducted in the year 2017-2020 in Haliyal, Mundgod, Yallapur taluk of newlineUttar Kannada district, Karnataka state. It consisted of total 800 high school students (375- newlineSiddi tribal and 425-rural) belonged to 13-16 years of age group who were randomly selected newlinefrom 15 high schools. Correlation and differential research design were used. Information newlinewere elicited using self-structured questionnaire, Life Skills Assessment Scale, Million newlineAdolescents Personality Inventory, Muzumdar Educational Aspiration Inventory and Study newlineHabit Inventory. Results highlighted that, 49.30 per cent of Siddi and 48.20 per cent of rural newlinestudents belonged to the age group of 13-14 years and 14-15 years respectively. More than newlinehalf (55.40 %) of families belonged to lower middle class of socio economic status. Nearly newlinehalf (48.00 %) of the Siddi students possessed low level of life skills followed by average newline(39.20 %) and none of them showed high skills, whereas 59.52 per cent of rural students newlineattained average skills followed by low (35.29 %) and significant difference found between newlineSiddi and rural students. Majority of Siddi showed low and average study habits and newlineeducational aspiration (70.00 % to 91.00 % respectively) but 50-55 per cent of rural students newlinepresented above average level of study habits and education aspiration. Academic newlineachievement of Siddi students found to be significantly low from their counter parts. There newlinewas a significant difference in personality traits, expressed concern and behavioral correlates newlineobserved between Siddi tribal and rural students, where, Siddi students showed high newlineprominence of inhibited and introversive and low prominence of sociability, confident and newlinecooperate and have major concern for self concept, body comfort, social tolerance, newlineconformity, family rapport, academic confidence and achievement compared rural students. newlineAge, class, type of school, father s education, mother s occupation and socio economic status, newlineconfident, respectful, cooperative, educational aspiration and academic achievement were newlinesignificantly predicting life skills among students. Among Siddi students, confident (34.04 %) newlineshowed highest direct effect towards life skills and in case of rural students academic newlineachievement (15.00 %) contributed highest direct effect. The intervention program had newlinesignificant impact on life skills enhancement of Siddi students. newline |
