Abstract: | A field experiment was conducted during kharif, 2018 and 2019 to study the newline physiological and biochemical basis of variation in productivity potential of chilli (Capsicum newlineannuum l.) genotypes at Department of Crop Physiology, UAS, Dharwad. Experiment on newlinechilli genotypes (53) including Byadgi dabbi as a check was laid out in randomized block newlinedesign with two replications. The optimum range of CGR (7.23 11.85 g m-2 day-1), AGR newline(260.43 426.64 g plant-1 day-1) and RGR (13.95 14.58 g g-1 day-1) was recorded for the newlinegenotypes DAC-33, DCA-37 and DCA-23. The fruit yield was significantly highest in DCA- newline33 (165.80 g plant-1) and lower in DCA-36 (24.21 g plant-1) as compared to the check Byadgi newlinedabbi (56.63 g plant-1). The dry fruit yield had significant positive correlation with number of newlinefruits per plant (0.51**), per cent fruit set (0.49**), HI (0.63**), CGR (0.91**) and NAR newline(0.91**). The correlation studies revealed that fruit yield per plant showed positive newlineassociation with yield and yield components such as number of fruits per plant, per cent fruit newlineset and harvest index (0.51**, 0.49** and 0.63**, respectively). newlineThe ascorbic acid content was more in DCA-50 (219.09 mg 100g-1) and lower in newlineDCA-18 (80.00 mg 100g-1), the colour value was maximum in DCA-44 (449.71 ASTA units) newlineand minimum in DCA-28 (80.54 ASTA units). While, the capsaicin content was recorded newlinehighest in the genotype DCA-3 (19.40%) and lowest in DCA-25 (11.18%), the oleoresin newlinecontent was more in DCA-30 (18.62%) and least in DCA-52 (10.26%). High GCV and PCV newline(gt20%) were observed for photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, CGR, AGR, NAR, newlinenumber of fruits per plant, per cent fruit set, dry weight of fruits, ascorbic acid and colour newlinevalue. This indicates the presence of greater amount of variability for these characters, which newlinewould be amenable for further crop improvement. newline |
