Abstract: The present investigation titled on Functional Finishing of Excel Fabric Using newlineBanana Pseudo Stem Sap was conducted during the year 2018-2020 at UAS Dharwad. To newlinecharacterize and optimize the banana pseudo stem sap (BPS) for textile finishing, to study newlinethe fibre, yarn and fabric properties of excel, to assess the physical and functional newlineproperties of BPS treated cotton and excel fabrics, to know the effect of laundering on newlinefunctional properties of BPS treated fabrics and to estimate the production and finishing newlinecost of BPS treated fabrics. Locally grown two varieties of banana pseudo stem viz, Grand newlineNain (G9) and Ney Poovan (NP) sap subjected to characterization. Ney Poovan sap newlineexhibited greater TPC, DPPH, presence of sulphur, phosphorus, stigmasterol, newlinehexadecenoic acid with nitro (N-O) and sulfoxide (S O) stretching. Excel fibre and yarn newlinepossessed greater yarn evenness and physical properties than cotton. The developed cotton newlineand excel fabrics treated with optimized BPS (30min boiled NP) and BPS+boric acid in newlinevaried concentration viz., 20, 40 and 60 per cent through exhaust and pad dry cure method. newlineIrrespective of concentration, method of finishing and fabrics, samples treated with 40 and newline60 percent BPS and BPS+BA found to be denser, thicker, softer and pliable than control. newlineThe fabrics treated with higher concentration exhibited greater tensile strength, drapability, newlinegood to excellent UV protection factor and better flame retardant property which was newlineretained upto 15 washes. Finishing cost of BPS for per kg of fabrics was raging from newlineRs.40.00 to 90.00. Hence, BPS treated fabrics can be suitable for summer ladies apparels, newlinehealth care and home textiles. The processed sap can be used as eco auxiliaries for newlinefunctional finishing of textiles and optimum utilization of biowaste provides an immense newlinehelp to the farmers and entrepreneurs to take proper initiatives for sustainable environment. newline
