Abstract: During past two decades a large number of small ORFs, coding for micro-peptides have been identified from whole genome transcriptomic analysis. Recent studies have demonstrated the involvement of multiple lncRNAs and small peptide in the regulation of various steps of gene expression. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are gt200 nucleotides in length and earlier believed to lack the ability to encode proteins. LncRNAs are less conserved, yet show more conservation in tissue and developmentaland#8208;stage specific than mRNAs. Early work indicated that the most of the lncRNAs were predominantly nuclear and localized to chromatin. However, later it has become increasingly clear that many lncRNAs are exported to the cytoplasm and recent estimates are that ~54% of lncRNAs are detected in the cytoplasm. newline
