dc.description.abstractnewline A study was conducted to understand the inheritance of resistance to late leaf newlinespot, rust and to identify superior recombinants for disease and confectionary traits in newlinegroundnut. A Spanish bunch variety GPBD-5 and interspecific derivative ICGV 86699 newlineresistant to LLS and rust were crossed to a bold seeded adoptable but susceptible newlineconfectionary genotype, TG 76. The, F2 and F3 populations of TG 76 × ICGV 86699 newlineand TG 76 × GPBD 5 crosses were evaluated with parents for LLS and rust under newlineartificial epiphytotic condition. The result indicated that LLS and rust resistance in host newlineplant is controlled by single recessive gene. Both populations were advanced to develop newlinerecombinant inbred lines (F6) and were phenotyped for productivity traits, quality traits newlineand diseases during kharif 2017. newlineIn both populations, ANOVA indicated significant variation for majority of the newlinetraits studied. Genetic variability studies revealed high to moderate PCV and GCV, high newlineheritability with high to moderate GAM for most of the productivity traits and disease newlineresistance. Presence of high genetic variability resulted in identification of superior newlinerecombinants for productivity, nutritional traits and resistance to rust and LLS disease. newlineHigher percentage of superior recombinants for rust and LLS were observed in the cross newlineinvolving a interspective derivative (ICGV 86699) and spanish bunch cultivar newline(GPBD 5), respectively. Pod yield showed significant positive correlation with test newlineweight and negative association with LLS and rust. However, significant positive newlineassociation was recorded between LLS and rust. newlineFurther, attempts were made to identify markers linked to LLS, rust and test newlineweight resulted in identifictaion of five, four and three markers associated with LLS, newlinerust and test weight, respectively. The potential RILs (8-2, 339-1, 17-1 and 90-1) newlinesuperior to best parent identified for different traits, which could be utilized in future newlinebreeding programmes. The study indicated scope for combining high yield and foliar newlinedisease resi
