Abstract: | Concrete occupies the pre-dominant place as a construction material newlineover the centuries. Essentially the construction industry is now moving newlinetowards the phase of ultra durable concrete where concretes should withstand newlineall type of environmental conditions. The concrete construction materials are newlinenow being judged not only from their economical characteristics but also newlinefrom their serviceability. Any material used in concrete must serve the newlinepurpose of increasing their durability. Demands are increasing everyday to newlinemeet the supply of aggregates to the ever growing concrete industry. newlineUtilization of special type of aggregate is now gaining importance to meet the newlinespecial application design criteria. Several types of aggregates have been used newlinefor the design of concrete depending on the purpose they are intended to. newlineSome up gradations have also been done to improve the basic aspects of newlineconcrete such as workability, strength and durability. The reduction of natural newlineriver sand by any means is now the need of the hour. newlineAdvancements in the concrete production now also focus on improving newlinethe fire resistant behaviour of concrete. The replacement of fine aggregates is newlinemuch more desirable when they possess adequate fire resistant characteristics. newlineThe present research work understands the urgent need to pay attention to the newlinefire resistant behaviour of concrete simultaneously minimizing the use of newlineNatural River aggregate. The strength and durability of concrete with zircon newlinesand as fine aggregate is attempted in the present study especially when the newlineconcretes are subjected to elevated temperatures. In addition to the fine newlineaggregate replacement nano alumina is used as cement additive to beneficially newlinesupport the concrete durability through their nano characteristics. Zircon sand newlineis used upto 50% of the natural river sand aggregate and nano alumina is used newlineat 2% by weight of the cement binder. newline |
